How long is the BSDH program?

The BS in Dental Hygiene program can typically be completed in about four semesters. If additional general education courses are required, the program length may be extended.

When does the program accept applications?

Applications for the Fall Term cohort, which begins in August, are due at the end of July each year. Applications for the Spring Term cohort, which begins in January, are due by the end of October each year.

What is a blended program?

A mix of online and traditional in-person instruction.

What are the admission requirements?

You must have an AS in dental hygiene from a U.S. CODA-accredited dental hygiene program and a current dental hygiene license. Already possessing an AA degree is a plus.

What are the tuition costs?

Will the program include live lectures, prerecorded content, or independent coursework?

The program includes all three: live lectures (virtual), prerecorded/uploaded content, and independent coursework.

How many hours per week should students realistically expect?

Most courses are 3 credits. In an 8-week format, this equals approximately 5 hours per week of instruction, classwork, and homework.

Can the program be completed while working full-time as a CRDH?

Yes, it can, with complete dedication to completing class requirements. Classes will be asynchronous, but due dates for class work, projects, and papers would still need to be met.

What is Civic Literacy Competency?

Prior to the award of an associate or baccalaureate degree, first-time-in-college students entering a Florida College System (FCS) institution in the Fall Term 2018 through the 2020–21 academic year must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by completing an approved course or assessment prior to graduation.

Rule 6A-10.02413 of the State Board of Education defines civic literacy competency as follows:

Successfully passing one of the following courses: POS 2041 American Government, AMH 2010 History of the United States to 1877 (on or after Fall 2024), AMH 2020 History of the United States since 1877, or AMS 2010 Civil Discourse and the American Political Order.

Or achieving the standard score on one of the following assessments:

  • AP Government and Politics: United States — 3 (meets course and assessment requirement)
  • AP United States History — 4 (meets course and assessment requirement)
  • CLEP: American Government — 50 (meets course and assessment requirement)
  • CLEP: History of the United States 1 — 50 (meets course and assessment requirement)
  • Florida Civic Literacy Examination (FCLE) — 60%
