CART - Chemistry Acceleration Readiness Test
The CART is an internet based test for students seeking to take CHM1045 and bypass CHM1025. There is a 60 minute time limit. A calculator is available inside the test platform and a scientific calculator will be provided by the Testing Center. The passing score is 25 out of 50. The CART scores are provided at the conclusion of the test session and do not expire. No credit is awarded for passing the CART.

- What is the purpose of the CART?
The CART allows students to show their academic readiness to bypass CHM 1025. - Where and when is the CART available?
The CART is available in all MDC Testing Centers on an appointment priority basis. Standbys are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, if there are available seats Departments on a walk-in/appointment basis. Visit our Online Appointment webpage for additional information. It is offered on a regular basis throughout the year. - Can I take the CART on a remote basis?
Yes. Students must follow the remote testing option found at the Remote Testing web page. - Is there a fee?
The CART is free for MDC students. A remote testing fee is assessed for students who request a remote test. See Testing Fees section below. - Is the CART a timed test?
Yes. There is a 60 minute time limit. - How often can I take the CART?
The CART can only be taken once. No retakes are available or allowed. - Do CART scores expire?

No. The CART is only available for MDC students with a valid MDID #. - Is a referral required to take the CART?
Students meeting the eligibility criteria may take the CART without an authorized administrative referral. - Is scratch paper allowed for the CART?
Yes - Will a periodic table be provided for the CART?
Yes. A periodic table is provided by the Testing Center. - Are CHM 1025 enrolled or previously enrolled students eligible to take the CART?
- Students who have already registered in CHM 1025 (and are past the 100% refund deadline) or students who previously earned a grade of D, F, or W in CHM 1025 or its equivalent are not eligible to take the CART. The CLEP General Chemistry exam is an option for these students.

CART Eligibility Criteria
- Students must be in an CART Eligible Programs Chart that requires General Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis (CHM 1045) or be an eligible dual enrollment student and enrolled in or completed MAC1105 past the 100% refund date.
- It is recommended that students choosing to bypass Introductory Chemistry (CHM 1025) should have completed high school Chemistry with a ‘C’ or higher and graduated from a high school within a two (2) year period.
- Students who have already registered in CHM 1025 (and are past the 100% refund deadline) or students who previously earned a grade of D, F, or W in CHM 1025 or its equivalent are not eligible to take the CART. The CLEP General Chemistry exam is an option for these students.
Important Information:
- Students meeting the criteria may take the CART without an authorized administrative referral.
- Not passing the CART is not a predictor of future performance in CHM 1025.
- CHM 1045 Pre-requisites are MAC 1105 and a passing score of 25 or higher on the CART exam, or CHM 1025.
- CHM 1045 Co-requisite is CHM 1045L.
Retakes are not permitted. The CART can only be taken once. No retakes are available or allowed.
